COVID-19: INFORMATION & DELIVERY

The health precautions to be observed when delivering parcels are now recorded in a best practice guide developed by the Government (jointly by the Secretariat of State for Digital Affairs and the Ministries of Labor and Health).

This guide, published on March 19, serves as a reminder that while parcel delivery remains permitted, it requires businesses to strictly adhere to general measures to prevent the spread of the virus and ensure maximum protection for those handling these packages. This includes implementing contactless delivery.

Thus, at home, contactless delivery takes place under the following conditions:

• Deliveries will be made primarily to the recipient's standard mailboxes. Senders are encouraged to optimize the size of their packages to make this type of delivery as easy as possible.
• In the case of deliveries that do not fit into a standard mailbox, the delivery person will notify the customer or designated person of their arrival (by knocking or ringing the bell).
• The delivery person places the package on the doorstep and immediately moves away at least 1 meter from the door, before the customer opens the door.
• He can leave the package on the doorstep or remotely check that the package has been received by the customer. He does not collect a handwritten signature from the customer.
• The goal is to avoid close contact and, in particular, to avoid passing the package from hand to hand.

These rules complement the barrier gestures and the Social distancing rules issued by the Government earlier this week. These are particularly essential for jobs that are not eligible for teleworking, as they ensure maximum protection for those handling these packages (deliverers and consumers alike) and smooth delivery processes.
